List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.
Elements Elements describe the essential outcomes. | Performance Criteria Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. |
1. Prepare for set construction | 1.1 Confirm set construction requirements in consultation with relevant personnel and with reference to production documentation 1.2 Discuss visual interpretation of production requirements and ways in which they could be realised 1.3 Reach agreement on scope of own work and construction deadlines 1.4 Take measurements for set elements and amend scale drawings as required 1.5 Prepare equipment, tools and materials according to design specifications and construction techniques to be used |
2. Construct set elements | 2.1 Construct set elements in a logical order and within production timelines 2.2 Follow safety procedures during the construction process according to organisational requirements 2.3 Participate in ongoing trials to establish the best results, determine the effect of lighting and solve problems that arise during the construction phase 2.4 Identify different approaches that could enhance the final outcome and incorporate them into work processes 2.5 Label and code partially finished set elements for identification during the construction phase |
3. Finalise set construction | 3.1 Complete fireproofing according to relevant state/territory health and safety legislative requirements 3.2 Liaise with relevant personnel to check set elements for accuracy and compliance with design and construction specifications 3.3 Adjust set elements to take account of feedback and discussions, and update documentation as required 3.4 Store sets according to organisational procedures and in ways that avoid loss or damage 3.5 Clean, maintain and store tools, equipment and materials according to workplace and safety requirements 3.6 Contribute to evaluations of set construction processes and note ways to improve own work performance |
Evidence of the ability to:
construct a variety of set elements for at least one production
follow safety procedures
meet deadlines
work collaboratively.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided for each of the above points at least once.
To complete the unit requirements the individual must:
describe issues and challenges that typically arise when constructing sets and suggest ways of addressing them
describe how different materials, finishes and colours react under lighting and other production conditions
explain how specifications and set designs in production documentation can be used as the basis for determining set construction techniques
explain how legislative and organisational safety standards relate to the process of constructing sets
describe techniques for constructing and painting sets and explain the different contexts in which they are used
describe safe handling techniques for hazardous materials typically used in set construction
explain how to test a range of finished and unfinished materials.
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:
set specifications and drawings
a venue in which sets can be constructed.
Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
